When I was in kindergarten, I decided that I wanted to cut my hair....my beautiful L-O-N-G (butt length) hair. I came to my mom one day and told her I wanted to cut it. She asked me if I was sure and I promptly and most adult like told her that it was my hair and I would do what I wanted with it. So, with that, my mom cut a bunch of my hair off, and we threw it out in the backyard so some birds could make a nest with it (side note...do birds actually use hair to make birds nest or is it all a bunch of crock to make a little child feel like they're doing something special?).
The point of my story is to show that when we are little and we don't yet know how to get in the way of our happiness, we make choices that will make us happy...we don't think about the consequences (heck, I didn't used to think that if I cut my hair real short I'd look like a boy...but I sure do now! haha), we just do what makes us happy in the moment. So...this last week I decided to do stuff that I wanted to do. I took off last Wednesday...Crazy right?? I never use my vacation days unless I am going somewhere...I like to make them count! But I've been gone the last 7 weekends and was CRAVING some time at home. So I decided that was the best use of my vacation day, and let me tell you it was pure bliss! Caught up on some TV shows, cleaned, made Chocolate Peanut Butter covered banana's - yes, they are as good as they sound - and just plain ole relaxed. That's. Where. It. Is. AT! Then, over the weekend I went camping with my best friend, back to the place we went camping when we went in 4th grade (Shout out: Hey Katie!) ...it was an amazing time and we decided to go on a little photo walk! It felt so good to just take pictures for myself.
Sometimes as photographers we get caught up in taking images for the wrong reasons...not because we are passionate about what we are photographing. We've all been there, we need to build our portfolio, or maybe we need money, or maybe we are trying to impress other photogs with our images. But sometimes, sometime you just need to shoot for yourself...do something unpaid and follow where your heart takes you! It may sound silly, but it can really bring out something in you that you've been missing and inspire you to do something completely new with your next paid session. With that, I'll get off my soapbox, but it's just something to think about! Here are some pics from the photo walk!
